Angels sign Right-Hander Alek Manoah to One-Year Deal
Los Angeles, CA – december 2, 2025 – The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to a one-year, $1.95 million contract with right-handed pitcher Alek Manoah, as reported by jeff Passan of ESPN.The Angels, currently possessing open spots on their 40-man roster, will not need to make a corresponding move to accommodate the signing. This acquisition represents a low-risk, high-reward opportunity for the Angels, aiming to revitalize a pitcher who has experienced a notable decline in recent performance.
Manoah, represented by Covenant Sports Group, was a highly touted prospect just a few years ago. Originally selected 11th overall in the 2019 MLB draft by the Toronto Blue Jays, he quickly ascended through the minor leagues and established himself as a key component of the Blue Jays’ rotation. In 2022, Manoah finished third in American league Cy Young Award voting, posting a stellar 2.24 ERA across 196.2 innings pitched.
Though, the 2023 and 2024 seasons proved challenging for the young pitcher. Injuries, including shoulder inflammation, and a noticeable dip in performance led to a demotion to the minor leagues in 2023. He was then traded to the Atlanta Braves in december 2024, but ultimately non-tendered by the institution in November 2025, making him a free agent.His 2024 season with the Blue Jays saw him post a 5.87 ERA in 13 starts.
The Angels are betting that a change of scenery and a focused approach can definitely help Manoah rediscover the form that made him a Cy Young contender. The team has a history of working with pitchers to unlock their potential, and the relatively modest financial commitment minimizes the risk.
“This is a classic buy-low situation,” stated a source within the Angels organization, speaking on background. “Alek has demonstrated he can pitch at a very high level. We believe our coaching staff can help him address the mechanical and physical issues that have impacted his performance and get him back on track.”
The signing of Manoah adds depth to an Angels pitching staff that is undergoing a rebuild. While the team has made other acquisitions this offseason, Manoah represents a potential high-ceiling addition if he can regain his previous form.
