Anne Hathaway Reveals Hot Ones Hesitation Due to Pregnancy Ahead of ‘Verity’ Release
Anne Hathaway revealed on the Talk of the Townsends podcast that she has not yet completed the Hot Ones challenge for her film Verity due to her pregnancy. The actress, expecting her third child with husband Adam Schulman, explained that her doctor advised against the spicy wings challenge to avoid risks of early labor. “I thought I was gonna be able to do the Hot Ones challenge to do press for this film because it just made sense,” she said. “But then I got pregnant, and my doctor said I couldn’t do it because I might go into early labor.”
Verity’s Release and Hathaway’s Role
Verity, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling thriller, is set to hit theaters on October 2. The film follows Hathaway’s character, Verity Crawford, a writer navigating a fictional press tour that includes an appearance on Hot Ones. During production, Hathaway joked about replicating the scene by eating real hot wings before switching to “dummy wings” for the shoot. “I did the first three wings for real, and then I switched to dummy wings,” she said.
Pregnancy and Future Plans
Hathaway announced her pregnancy in June, joining her sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6. The actress, who has a packed 2026 slate including Mother Mary and The Devil Wears Prada 2, said she remains unsure when she will tackle the Hot Ones challenge. “I’m not sure when that’s gonna happen. Maybe next year,” she added. The film’s release coincides with her family’s expanding dynamic, as the couple prepares for their third child.
Press Tour Strategy and Cultural Impact
Hathaway emphasized the symbolic connection between her character’s fictional press tour and her own promotional efforts. She described the Hot Ones appearance as part of a “triple crown trifecta” alongside a Gayle King interview, aiming to mirror her character’s rise to cultural prominence. “Is that enough to establish Verity as an iconic cultural figure?” she recalled asking during production meetings.
