Pima County Sheriff’s Office Addresses Anonymous Tip in Nancy Guthrie Disappearance Case

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed it received an anonymous tip about the disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, but stated it has not been contacted by Mexican authorities, according to a Thursday statement. The tip reportedly linked Guthrie to a “Mexican group” involved in locating missing persons, though no arrests or confirmed leads have emerged.

Anonymous Tip Allegedly Shared With Mexican Group

According to newspaper El Imparcial, a Mexican organization called “Buscando Corazones Nogales” was provided with an anonymous tip suggesting Guthrie was buried in an unmarked grave near the Arizona-Mexico border. The group conducted a search in the Mariposa area west of Nogales but found no evidence of her remains, the report said.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department emphasized the investigation remains “active and ongoing,” with officials pledging to follow up on “credible information.” No suspects have been publicly identified in the case, which began when Guthrie was reported missing on February 1, 2023.

FBI Involved in Investigation

The Federal Bureau of Investigation is assisting the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, with 150 agents reportedly working on the case. FBI Director Christopher Wray has not publicly commented on the matter, though the bureau’s involvement underscores the complexity of the investigation.

Authorities have not disclosed details about the armed, masked suspect captured on camera at Guthrie’s Arizona home. Physical evidence, including DNA, is still being analyzed, according to local officials.
