British heavyweight boxer anthony Joshua has been injured in a car crash in Nigeria, which killed two members of his team.
The former world champion was a passenger in a vehicle that collided with a stationary truck on a major expressway near Lagos on Monday morning.
Police confirmed that Latif “Latz” Ayodele, a member of Joshua’s security team, and Sina Ghami, a fitness coach, died in the crash.
Joshua was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries and has since been discharged, his spokesperson told the BBC.
“anthony Joshua is currently in Nigeria as part of a wider visit to the country,” the spokesperson said. “He was involved in a road traffic accident earlier today, and while he sustained minor injuries, thankfully he is fine.”
The police said the driver of the vehicle, which was carrying Joshua and his team, lost control after a tyre blew out.

Joshua has strong ties to nigeria, the country of his ancestral roots. He has visited several times, and has spoken about his desire to give back to the community.
He was in Nigeria to attend a youth empowerment event and visit schools, according to local media reports.
The British boxer has not yet commented publicly on the incident.

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reports that preliminary investigations suggest the Lexus was travelling at an excessive speed. The vehicle is believed to have lost control during an overtaking attempt, resulting in a collision with the truck parked on the roadside.
Images released by the FRSC depict the severely damaged car and a gathering of onlookers at the crash site.
According to local officials, Ajagba and the vehicle’s driver were rescued by the boxer’s security team following the impact. Sadly, another occupant of the vehicle died in the crash.
The FRSC is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the accident.
