Anthropic Deepens Enterprise AI Push with Plugins and Marketplace

Anthropic is expanding the capabilities of its Claude AI platform to better serve enterprise customers, introducing department-specific plugins, tools for custom plugin development, and a dedicated marketplace. This move aims to integrate Claude more deeply into existing business workflows and software systems, positioning it as a potential disruptor in the enterprise software landscape.

Expanding Plugin Ecosystem

Less than a month after initially launching plugins for Claude, Anthropic is significantly broadening its offering. The new capabilities allow organizations to deploy plugins tailored to specific departments, such as human resources and investment banking. Companies can also build custom plugins to streamline internal processes and distribute them to employees. According to Anthropic, enterprises could potentially develop “dozens, hundreds, or even thousands” of these plugins, functioning as “mini apps” accessible across teams.

Claude Plugin Marketplace and Software Integrations

A key component of this expansion is the introduction of a plugin marketplace, enabling enterprises to host and manage their own plugins. Employees can browse available tools within the organization and select those relevant to their roles. Claude now connects to several popular enterprise software services, including:

  • Google Drive and Gmail
  • DocuSign
  • LegalZoom

These integrations are designed to allow Claude to operate within established workflows, rather than as a standalone chatbot.

Impact on Enterprise Software Providers

Anthropic’s deeper foray into enterprise tooling has already begun to impact publicly traded software companies. Since the January 30th announcement of Claude Cowork, several enterprise software stocks have experienced declines:

  • ServiceNow: Down more than 23%
  • Salesforce: Down 22%
  • Snowflake: Down 20%
  • Intuit: Down 33%
  • Thomson Reuters: Down 31%

Cybersecurity Sector Also Affected

The February 20th announcement of Claude Code Security – a feature that scans codebases for vulnerabilities and suggests patches – also triggered reactions in the cybersecurity sector:

  • CrowdStrike: Fell 7.2%
  • Zscaler: Dropped 7.1%
  • Palo Alto Networks: Declined 2.6%

The market response suggests concerns that AI platforms like Claude, and those from competitors like OpenAI, could potentially replace existing enterprise software tools or empower companies to build custom internal solutions.

Competitive Landscape

Anthropic is not the only player expanding into enterprise AI tooling. OpenAI recently introduced its Frontier platform, which allows users to build AI agents that interact with company software systems. Analysts note that the option of building custom enterprise tools through open-source software has long existed, and the overall enterprise software market has continued to grow despite this alternative.

Pricing and Rollout

Anthropic has not yet disclosed pricing details for the expanded enterprise features or provided specific rollout timelines beyond the initial announcement on Tuesday.
