Pasadena Vigil Highlights Enforcement Fatalities
Participants in Pasadena held a demonstration featuring fliers with photographs and names of people who died during enforcement actions. According to local organizers with the San Gabriel Foothills Indivisible group, the event served as a public memorial. Demonstrators carried flags and signs along Colorado Boulevard and Fair Oaks Avenue.
Organizer Andra Clarke stated that the group has maintained weekly gatherings at the intersection since March. This weekend’s demonstration shifted focus entirely toward individuals affected by Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations.
Community Members Voice Generational Trauma
Attendees shared personal reflections regarding the ongoing impact of immigration enforcement on local families. Leticia Lopez, a 65-year-old South Pasadena resident, spoke during the event about the emotional toll of enforcement actions on local communities. Lopez noted that fear of profiling has led community members to carry identification documents routinely in public spaces.
Participants also highlighted specific local incidents, including enforcement actions at a Monrovia Home Depot. Sheri Lochner, a Monrovia resident representing the East Pasadena Community Defense Corner, observed previous detentions at the site.
Temporary Memorial Installations
Later in the afternoon, organizers established a temporary memorial display near a Home Depot location in Pasadena. Attendees drove white crosses into the ground bearing photographs and details of individuals who died during enforcement operations. The installation included flowers placed by community members in remembrance of the deceased.
Marlom Portillo, an educator with the National Day Laborer Organizing Network, addressed the gathering during the installation of the crosses, emphasizing the group’s intent to maintain public awareness surrounding the fatalities.
