Ao Dai Fashion Week 2026: Vietnam’s Traditional Dress Takes Center Stage in London, Paris, and Milan
London – Representatives of the Vietnamese community in the United Kingdom, alongside international partners, journalists, and cultural enthusiasts, gathered in central London on March 8th to celebrate the launch of the Ao Dai Fashion Week project. This initiative aims to establish the Ao Dai – Vietnam’s traditional long dress – as a prominent brand on the global fashion stage, beginning with a showcase during London Fashion Week in mid-September 2026.
A Journey to Global Recognition
With the support of the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK, Vietnamese associations across Europe, and the business and artistic communities, Ao Dai Fashion Week will extend beyond London to include fashion capitals Paris and Milan, solidifying Vietnamese culture’s presence internationally. The project’s founder, Hoang Thi Hai Ha, emotionally stated, “We are not just bringing the Ao Dai to the world. We are opening a journey for the world to enter the story of Vietnamese culture.”
International Appeal and Growing Recognition
The growing international appeal of the Ao Dai is evident in the diversity of models participating in the project. Of the 200 models who registered, 65% are foreigners VNANet. Models Lillia Langley and Lauren Elms, who have showcased the Ao Dai since 2019, shared their experiences.
Langley expressed, “When I wear the Ao Dai, I feel a sense of modesty yet still great grace, and beauty. This is a traditional garment but it has the ability to blend in with the times. I am very proud and honored to contribute to bringing Vietnamese culture to the world.”
Elms added, “Before you wear an Ao Dai, open your heart and try to learn about Vietnamese culture. Each outfit tells a story. Vietnam has so much to discover. I’ve been modeling this traditional attire for many years, but I’m always learning more about Vietnamese culture.”
Beyond the Runway: Showcasing Vietnamese Craftsmanship
Ao Dai Fashion Week London 2026, initially introduced to the media in Hanoi on February 3rd Vietnam Times, is designed as a multifaceted event. Alongside fashion shows featuring leading Vietnamese designers, an Ao Dai parade will be held at iconic London landmarks. An exhibition will also showcase Vietnam’s traditional craftsmanship, including brocade, silk, ceramics, folk paintings, handmade jewelry, conical hats, and eco-friendly products. Live demonstrations of crafting processes will allow visitors to experience the depth of Vietnam’s cultural heritage.
