Apex Frozen Foods Limited reported an average shrimp realization of approximately INR 930 per kilo for the first quarter of fiscal year 2027, marking a 15% increase year-on-year, according to an earnings conference call held on August 18, 2026. Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer Chowdary Karuturi stated during the investor call that the higher realizations helped offset a decline in total sales volume, which dropped to 2,624 metric tons from 3,015 metric tons in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Drivers of Q1 FY27 Financial and Operational Performance

The company attributed the revenue offset to improving global shrimp prices and a favorable conversion rate for the USD-INR currency pair. However, operational headwinds restricted shipment volumes. Labor shortages, primarily concentrated in April and May 2026, alongside war-led transportation disruptions across specific export routes, constrained overall shrimp sales.

Apex Frozen Foods noted that it anticipates a volume recovery in the second quarter of fiscal 2027, contingent upon the normalization or improvement of global logistics and transportation conditions. The firm trades on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India under the ticker symbol APEX, maintaining a market capitalization of approximately 12.54 billion INR based on recent exchange data cited by TipRanks.

Geographical Shift in Export Markets

Geographical sales distribution shifted notably during the quarter ending June 30, 2026. According to company disclosures, the United States accounted for 70% of total shrimp sales, up from 54% in the first quarter of fiscal 2026. Shipments to the U.S. grew 13% year-on-year and 121% quarter-on-quarter, aided by a softening of tariff-related uncertainties.

Conversely, combined sales to the European Union and the United Kingdom dropped to 25% of total revenue, down from 39% in the prior-year period. Management reported that these European markets faced pressure from war-led transportation constraints and regulatory hurdles, specifically new testing and certification requirements enforced at the origin in India. Despite these near-term obstacles, executives emphasized that Europe remains a core component of the company’s diversified export strategy, which also focuses on increasing the proportion of higher-margin value-added products.
