Apple TV Cancels ‘Palm Royale’ After Two Seasons
Apple TV+ has canceled the critically acclaimed comedy series Palm Royale after two seasons, as reported by 9to5Mac and Men’s Journal. The decision comes despite the show receiving 11 Emmy nominations for its first season and winning the award for Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music.
A Star-Studded Cast and Critical Acclaim
Palm Royale, based on Julie McDaniel’s 2018 novel “Mr. And Mrs. American Pie,” featured a prominent cast including Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, and Carol Burnett. The series followed Maxine Simmons (Wiig) as she attempted to integrate into Palm Beach high society.
Even as the show garnered critical attention, it did not achieve the mainstream success of other Apple TV+ comedies like Ted Lasso or The Studio. Palm Royale currently holds an average rating of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 6.8/10 on IMDb.
Season Two Finale and Unresolved Storylines
The second season of Palm Royale concluded in January, leaving the central storyline unresolved. Unlike the cliffhanger ending of Season 1, the Season 2 finale offered several positive outcomes for the characters: Robert and Maxine got married, unlocking a trust fund that Maxine generously shared with her friends. Evelyn and Maxine reopened the Palm Royale, Mitzi began a new relationship, and Linda and Norma reunited in Paris. The Wrap reports that showrunner Abe Sylvia intended to leave viewers with a sense of happiness while hinting at future complications.
Apple’s Streaming Service and Future Content
Palm Royale premiered on Apple TV+ on March 20, 2024, and consisted of 20 episodes. Apple declined to comment on the cancellation when contacted by Deadline. Apple TV+ is available for $12.99 per month and offers a range of other shows and movies, including F1 The Movie, Severance, The Studio, The Morning Show, Shrinking, and Silo.
