Apple is gradually adapting its AI strategy, with CarPlay as the central platform for this change. Apple has already admitted that it has fallen behind in the AI race. The recent partnership with Google confirms this strategic change. According to insiders, support for third-party chatbots in CarPlay could become available within the next few months, with major changes expected in future iOS updates. What’s important is that Apple doesn’t completely abandon Siri.

The voice assistant remains available in CarPlay and retains its default status. Third-party AI systems won’t automatically replace Siri – they work as separate applications. This means users will have to manually launch ChatGPT or Gemini if they prefer them to the built-in assistant. This approach buys valuable time for Apple.

The company still plans to release its own AI-powered version of Siri, although the timing remains uncertain. The longer this takes, the greater the risk that users will permanently switch to alternative solutions and no longer perceive Siri as a powerful assistant.

Key details are expected to be revealed at Apple’s WWDC conference, which traditionally takes place in the spring. The final version of the new iOS will probably be released in the fall – then CarPlay could receive full support for third-party AI.

Currently, ChatGPT and Gemini are already available on the iPhone, and Siri will become “smarter” in the future by using Google’s models. This means that even those who are tired of omnipresent AI have to accept it: artificial intelligence in cars is now an inevitable reality.

Apple relies more on ecosystems than on in-house developments. This is a step forward for CarPlay, but keeping Siri as the default assistant shows that the company is still wary of giving up complete control over the user experience.
