Apple Sets January 2027 Premiere Date for Fleetwood Mac Documentary

Fleetwood Mac will tell their history in their own words for the first time in a fully authorized documentary titled Fleetwood Mac: The Chain, which Apple Original Films announced will premiere globally on Apple TV on Friday, January 29, 2027. Macitynet reported that the release arrives just days before the 50th anniversary of the band’s landmark album Rumours, which debuted on February 4, 1977.

Frank Marshall directs the feature, bringing together fresh interviews alongside archival material and unseen footage. The production features contributions from Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, Christine McVie, Lindsey Buckingham, and Stevie Nicks. Apple noted that Christine McVie’s participation is drawn from archival interviews.

How Rumours Forged a Fragile Musical Union

The documentary draws its title from the track “The Chain,” which holds the distinction of being the sole song on Rumours credited to all five band members. According to Apple’s release announcement, “The Chain” is the only song on Rumours credited to all five members. Apple stated that the title captures both the fractures within the group and the enduring musical bond that survived severe personal and professional friction. Recorded during a period of intense turmoil, Rumours eventually won the Grammy Award for Album of the Year and contributed to worldwide sales exceeding 220 million records.

The film examines what repeatedly drew the musicians back together despite pressures threatening to tear the group apart. Marshall’s approach anchors the narrative in the relationship between personal upheaval and the creation of enduring masterworks.

Producers include Nigel Sinclair, Nicholas Ferrall, and Jeanne Elfant Festa, joined by Aly Parker of The Kennedy/Marshall Company.
