Arizona State Women’s Tennis Defeats Baylor in Big 12 Match

WACO, Texas – The No. 6 Arizona State Sun Devil Women’s Tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Baylor on Sunday afternoon at the Herd Tennis Center, marking their first Big 12 conference win of the season.

The win improves Arizona State’s record to 9-3 overall and 1-1 in Big 12 play, while Baylor falls to 5-4 overall and 1-1 in conference matches. This victory ties the all-time series between the two teams at two wins apiece and represents Arizona State’s first win against Baylor since March 4, 2023.

Key Match Moments

Sophomore Lily Taylor clinched the decisive point for the Sun Devils, winning her final set 6-4. She began with a 7-5 first-set win before dropping the second set 4-6, ultimately securing her fifth singles win of the season and her third three-set match victory this year.

Graduate student Vivian Ovrootsky extended her winning streak to nine consecutive dual matches, moving to 9-0 this spring. She has now won 18 straight sets and secured her fifth tiebreaker of the year.

Freshman Sarang Lim tied the match at 2-2 with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 three-set win. Following a Baylor win on court No. 1, junior Sara Svetac tied the score at 3-3 with a 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 victory, marking her second three-set win of the year and her first against a ranked opponent.

Doubles Play

The sophomore duo of Aiya Nupbay and Lily Taylor won their doubles match convincingly, 6-1. However, Arizona State was unable to secure the doubles point as Baylor won on courts one, and three.
