A shooting incident in Annapolis Royal led the Royal Canadian Mounted Police to issue a shelter-in-place order for Halifax before a suspect was arrested in Bedford on Saturday afternoon, according to the Halifax Regional Police and the Nova Scotia RCMP. The emergency alert was lifted shortly after the arrest.

Suspect Arrested Behind Bedford Shopping Centre

The suspect was taken into custody on Saturday afternoon following a police operation in Bedford, a suburban community outside Halifax, according to the Halifax Regional Police. Authorities located the suspect’s vehicle in the parking lot behind the Sunnyside shopping centre. The individual was subsequently apprehended in a wooded area directly behind the retail complex, police stated.

The arrest brought an end to an unfolding security incident that prompted widespread public safety warnings across the Halifax area earlier in the day.

Emergency Alert and Shelter-in-Place Order Lifted

Prior to the arrest, the Nova Scotia RCMP issued an emergency alert directing Halifax residents to seek shelter and remain indoors.
