Fort Bliss Sergeant Sentenced to 40 Years for Child Sex Abuse Crimes

FORT BLISS, Texas – Army Sgt. Chad A. Jones, 35, was sentenced to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple child sexual abuse crimes during his court-martial held February 17–18 at the Col. Hubert E. Miller Courtroom, Fort Bliss.

Details of the Case

Jones, an allied trade specialist assigned to 1st Battalion, 67th Armored Regiment, 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, pleaded guilty to 50 specifications of sexual abuse of a child, one specification of sexual assault of a child, and one specification of indecent communication with a child. The case involves three adolescent victims.

In addition to the 40-year prison sentence, Jones was reduced in rank to E-1 and received a dishonorable discharge from the Army.

Timeline of Abuse

The abuse of the first victim began in February 2021 and continued through February 2025. This victim experienced sexual abuse while Jones was stationed at both Fort Carson, Colorado, and Fort Bliss. When Jones was away for training or deployment, abuse continued through indecent communication via WhatsApp.

Jones victimized the other two minors through online interactions, with one victim in June 2024 and another in November 2025. He reportedly gained their trust by initially presenting himself as a role model or confidant before requesting sexual images or asking sexual questions.

Investigation and Prosecution

The investigation was initiated after the second victim reported Jones’ actions to authorities, leading to involvement from the Department of the Army Criminal Investigation Division (CID). During an interview with Army CID agents, the first victim also disclosed incidents of sexual assault and sexual abuse.

Evidence gathered by investigators included recordings, photos, and messages extracted from the phones of both Jones and the victims.

Prosecutors emphasized the severity of Jones’ actions during sentencing. Capt. Fox Y. Whitworth stated that Jones “knew he was trespassing upon a child’s innocence” and “gloried in doing so.” Special Agent in Charge Olga Morales of Army CID’s Southwest Field Office added that Jones “irreparably damaged these children’s sense of safety.”

Future Implications

Jones will serve his sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender, adhering to both federal and state requirements.
