Arteta’s Frustration with Eze and Calafiori’s Transfer Dreams at Arsenal

Arsenal are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table, but manager Mikel Arteta is not without concerns. Recent performances, particularly from summer signing Eberechi Eze, have drawn the Spaniard’s frustration, while Riccardo Calafiori has hinted at a potential return to Roma.

Arteta’s Growing Annoyance with Eze

Despite contributing to 13 goals this season, including a memorable five against Tottenham, Mikel Arteta has reportedly become frustrated with Eberechi Eze’s recent performances. During Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Chelsea on Sunday, Arteta was visibly agitated on the touchline, reacting to Eze’s touches and overall contribution.

Eze completed just 17 accurate passes out of 22 against Chelsea, and only managed two shots. This performance has led to criticism, with former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney previously stating that Eze needs to build it “impossible” for Arteta to drop him. Rooney, speaking on the Wayne Rooney show, questioned Eze’s consistency and mentality, stating, “I don’t think he’s been quality enough this season… I think he needs to perform a little bit better than he has so far this season.”

Calafiori Reveals Desire for Roma Return

Riccardo Calafiori, who joined Arsenal in July 2024 for a fee potentially reaching £42 million, has expressed a desire to return to Roma in the future. The 23-year-old has lost his starting position following a December injury, with Piero Hincapie impressing in his absence.

Arteta has hinted at a permanent move for Hincapie, reportedly valuing the loan star at £45 million. Calafiori, speaking to Corriere dello Sport, stated, “I’d like to return to Roma sooner or later… I left something unfinished.” He also reflected on his previous time at the club, noting a period where he fell out of favor after a promising start under Jose Mourinho.

Despite his transfer hint, Calafiori remains positive about his experience at Arsenal, praising Arteta’s demanding coaching style. He told Sky Sports, “He’s a really demanding guy, but I like it… It’s crazy how much effort he puts every time, every day.”
