October Class Schedule and Locations

Unless otherwise noted in the official schedule, courses take place at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute, located at the Maine Department of Labor at 45 Commerce Drive in Augusta.

• Fire Extinguishers, Emergency Action Plans, and Workplace Violence: Thursday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta. This session covers emergency action plan requirements, fire extinguisher operation, and workplace violence prevention. Participants will take part in a fire extinguisher discharge activity in the SWTI Lab.
• Bloodborne Pathogens Train-the-Trainer: Friday, Oct. 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta. A half-day class reviewing compliance with bloodborne pathogen standards, written program rules, training documentation, Hepatitis B, and sharp logs.
• Safety and Health Management Systems: Tuesday, Oct. 6, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta. This course outlines the principles of safety and health management beyond basic OSHA compliance to help organizations reduce injuries and prepare to pursue SHARP or SHAPE programs.
• Cold and Heat Illness Prevention: Friday, Oct. 9, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta. The class covers temperature-related illnesses for both indoor and outdoor workers, along with recognition and control measures.
• Welding and Compressed Gas: Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta. This session addresses welding standards, the safe storage and use of compressed gas, and inspection techniques for hoses, torches, and regulators.
• Wage and Hour Compliance: Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, 200 Main St., Conference Room A, in Lewiston. Geared toward business owners, human resources staff, accountants, and payroll supervisors, this seminar covers wage laws, minimum wage, overtime, youth employment, severance, equal pay, rest breaks, and leave mandates such as earned paid leave and family medical leave.
• Emergency Scene Traffic Control: Friday, Oct. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Held online, this half-day class covers personal protective equipment and training requirements for firefighters and emergency medical service providers managing traffic at unplanned motor vehicle crashes.
• Workstation Ergonomics (VDT): Tuesday, Oct. 20, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the SafetyWorks! Training Institute in Augusta.
