Hewlett Packard to Exit Boise Operations by End of 2027
Technology company Hewlett Packard, Inc. Will wind down its Boise operations and exit Idaho by the end of its next fiscal year, October 31, 2027, according to an announcement made to employees in March 2026. The decision marks the conclusion of more than five decades of HP’s presence in Boise, where the company established a facility in the mid-1970s and developed the LaserJet printer at its Chinden Boulevard campus.

HP Inc. Has approximately 1,100 employees in Boise, primarily working in the LaserJet division. The company notified its workforce of the upcoming transition via email in early March 2026, followed by a Zoom call. Leadership is expected to visit the Boise campus the week following the announcement to provide further details.
To support affected employees, HP recently announced an early retirement program for its U.S.-based workforce aged 55 and older with ten or more years of service. The timing of the transition announcement—18 months ahead of the planned exit—was intended to allow eligible workers to consider the program in their planning. Employees will receive information about individual transition options from their departments by May 1, 2026.
Although HP sold its Boise property to the state of Idaho in 2017, it has continued to lease back office space in the years since. The company spun off its computing services division into Hewlett-Packard Enterprise in 2015.
The transition was first reported by BoiseDev.com and later confirmed by local news outlets including Boise State Public Radio and KTVB. HP’s departure concludes a significant chapter in Boise’s economic and technological history.
