Wilmington’s Educational Advocacy Director Joins Governor Meyer’s Administration
Wilmington City Council’s first and only Director of the Office of Educational Advocacy, Dr. LaRetha Odumosu, is departing her role to join the administration of Delaware Governor Matt Meyer as Senior Policy Advisor for Education. The announcement was made by the City Council on May 28th, 2026.
Office of Educational Advocacy Established in 2025
The Wilmington City Council created the Office of Educational Advocacy in 2025 to serve as a “permanent connector between families, students, schools, and legislative bodies,” with the goal of amplifying community voices, bridging communication gaps, and developing long-term strategies to address academic inequities Delaware Public Media.
Governor Meyer Praises Odumosu’s Expertise
Governor Meyer expressed his enthusiasm for Odumosu joining his team, stating, “I’m thrilled to welcome Dr. O to our team as Senior Policy Advisor for Education. She knows that if a child can’t read, they can’t succeed. That’s why she has dedicated her career to opening doors for students and families, and I realize she will bring that same passion and urgency to this role, working to ensure every Delawarean has the resources and support they need to prepare for the jobs of the 21st century.” WDEL.
Odumosu Reflects on Her Time with Wilmington
Dr. Odumosu expressed gratitude for the opportunity to launch the Office of Educational Advocacy, stating, “It has been an honor to serve the City of Wilmington and help launch the Office of Educational Advocacy during such an important time. I am deeply grateful to President Trippi Congo and the members of Wilmington City Council for the opportunity as we worked to establish the office’s credibility and build a strong foundation for the future. It has truly been a privilege to contribute to this work and to the future of Wilmington’s students, families and communities. City Council Reaffirms Commitment to Educational Advocacy
Members of the Wilmington City Council reaffirmed their commitment to the Office of Educational Advocacy and its role in advancing educational outcomes for Wilmington residents. Council President Trippi Congo emphasized that the office was created to ensure Wilmington families have a strong voice in education and access to resources that support student success WDEL.
