Asbestos Found in Play sand at Hove Childcare Center

Hove residents are being informed that trace amounts of asbestos were recently discovered in the play sand at the Mikado after-school childcare center.The municipality initiated testing last week at several locations, including the childcare center, local schools, playgrounds, and a community shelter. Results indicated that only the kinetic play sand at Mikado contained asbestos.

While the finding is concerning, officials are rapid too reassure the public that the levels detected are very low. “The quantities involved are minimal,” a municipal spokesperson stated, “and there’s currently no cause for alarm.”

The municipality has not yet released details regarding the specific type of asbestos found or the potential health risks associated with the low-level exposure. Parents with concerns are encouraged to contact the Mikado after-school childcare center directly,as well as their family physician.
