Assamese woman lawyer allegedly assaulted and targeted with racial slurs in Delhi

Assault Reported During Prasad Nagar Property Dispute

The confrontation occurred in the Prasad Nagar area, where a civil dispute involving a property brought opposing factions together. According to police statements, the woman lawyer was representing a client locally known as “Dollar Baba.” During the altercation, a group of individuals allegedly targeted the lawyer physically and verbally. A video posted to social media platform X by user Diganta Guha captured the lawyer in distress, stating that she was attacked even while police officers were present at the scene.

Allegations of Racial Slurs and Outsider Targeting

In the widely circulated video recording, the lawyer alleged that the opposing party singled her out because she is from northeast India. She stated that the attackers questioned why people from the northeast come to work in Delhi, accusing the group of using derogatory language and labeling her an “outsider.” During her emotional appeal on camera, she questioned local safety assurances, directly addressing state and national leadership regarding the protection of women and professionals working in the capital.

Police Investigation and Counter-Complaints

Delhi Police confirmed that formal legal proceedings are underway following the incident. Authorities stated that the woman lawyer lodged a formal complaint alleging physical assault, targeted harassment, and molestation during the clash. In response to the friction on-site, the opposing party in the property dispute also filed a counter-complaint. Police officials stated that First Information Reports (FIRs) under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) are being registered based on the submitted grievances, and the investigation remains active.
