The Houston Astros acquired outfielder Jadyn Fielder from the Milwaukee Brewers, according to official transaction reports. Fielder, the 21-year-old son of former MLB slugger Prince Fielder and grandson of Cecil Fielder, is assigned to Single-A Fayetteville in the Astros’ farm system.
Astros Target Fielder’s Plate Discipline
Brown described Fielder as a “true professional” and a “patient hitter” with “good plate discipline,” noting that while he has experience at first and second base, he will most likely play the outfield for Houston.
Fielder enters the Astros organization coming off a stint with Single-A Wilson in the Carolina League. In 45 games, the left-handed hitter posted a .415 on-base percentage and an .813 OPS, recording 11 doubles, three home runs, and 23 RBIs while batting .233.
A Departure from the Brewers Legacy
The trade moves Jadyn away from the organization where his father, Prince Fielder, established a Hall-of-Fame caliber legacy. Prince Fielder was selected seventh overall by the Brewers in the 2002 Draft and hit 230 home runs over seven seasons with the franchise. Jadyn grew up in the Brewers’ clubhouse, where he developed a close relationship with players like Rickie Weeks—who serves as Jadyn’s godfather and currently works as a special assistant for the Brewers.
Despite the family history, Jadyn has pushed to define his own identity on the diamond. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 210 pounds, he is physically leaner than the “burly” profile of his father and grandfather.
“My dad, my grandpa — we all kind of know I’m different from them,” Jadyn said last year. “I’m not that big of a guy. We all understand I’m definitely going to have a different path from them.”
The Fielder Family Power Profile
Jadyn carries one of the most prolific power pedigrees in baseball history. His grandfather, Cecil Fielder, recorded 319 career home runs and 1,008 RBIs. Cecil led the Major Leagues in home runs twice, hitting 51 in 1990 and 44 in 1991, which earned him two second-place finishes in AL MVP voting.
