Barrio Ricardo Brugada TikTok Shootout Investigated by Asunción Police

A Sunday afternoon dispute fueled by social media threats escalated into an armed ambush in Asunción’s barrio Ricardo Brugada, commonly known as Chacarita, according to local law enforcement. abc.com.py reported that the violent incident unfolded in front of a residence when three armed minors emerged from a corridor to target a young person exiting the home. The victim quickly retreated indoors, escaping injury during the gunfire. Four adolescents were involved in the attack, which took place over the course of Sunday on Florencio Villamayor street in the vicinity of Club 3 de Febrero after the target had gone to a store to make purchases and the attackers learned of his movements.

Territorial Rivalries and Social Media Provocations

Sub-Commissioner Víctor Ovelar of the 5th Police Precinct in Asunción stated that the confrontation stemmed from ongoing territorial rivalries and online harassment between opposing factions. Investigators determined that the attack was a direct response to a provocative video posted on TikTok hours earlier. The target of Sunday’s shooting had allegedly filmed a challenge in front of a rival group’s home earlier that morning.

While abc.com.py focused on localized neighborhood disputes and a reported feud over a former romantic partner, additional reporting from hoy.com.py noted that authorities are also examining whether the teenage participants have ties to larger organized groups such as the Clan Rotela. Police tracked the movements of the suspects using closed-circuit security cameras, which captured the ambush in progress near Club 3 de Febrero on Florencio Villamayor street.

Injuries, Arrests, and Police Response

Following the gunfire, police located a 53-year-old homeless man working as a recycler about three blocks away with injuries, as detailed by hoy.com.py. Although initial radio calls suggested he was struck by a stray bullet, Sub-Commissioner Ovelar clarified that his wounds were caused by a blade and were unrelated to the shootout. The 53-year-old recycler, who él está siempre en el lugar, was transported to the Trauma Hospital for medical attention.

Subsequent police patrols in the area resulted in three arrests for micro-trafficking and theft. In response to the armed violence, the 5th Precinct is coordinating increased patrols with neighboring jurisdictions, including the 9th Precinct and the Tourist Security Department, to streamline emergency response times.
