Australian Man Reportedly Killed Fighting in Ukraine

The Department of Foreign Affairs is working to confirm the death of an Australian man reportedly killed while fighting with Ukrainian forces against Russia last month.

russell Allan Wilson was reportedly killed on December 12 in the Donetsk region,according to multiple social media posts. The ABC reported that a friend of Wilson said he died during his final mission and was scheduled to be married the following week.

A man identifying himself as a U.S. Army veteran posted on Instagram on December 19, stating Wilson “chose to stay when it would have been easier to leave.”

“He stood his ground in a place were freedom is paid for in blood, and he gave his life so others could keep theirs,” the veteran said, and has been contacted for comment.
