Norwegian Man Injured in Avalanche Near Riksgränsen, Sweden
A man in his 20s from Tromsø, Norway, was transported to UNN Narvik (University Hospital of North Norway in Narvik) following an avalanche on Wednesday afternoon near “Ruben’s wall” in Kårsvagge, located just south of Riksgränsen, Sweden.
A large-scale rescue operation was initiated after the avalanche alarm sounded, with assistance from both Sweden, and Norway. Swedish authorities initially reported the Norwegian national as seriously injured, a report cited by multiple news outlets in Norway.
Conflicting Reports on Injury Severity
However, family members contacted by Nordlys have offered differing accounts of the man’s condition. While one family member confirmed the man was seriously injured and at the hospital, another indicated he sustained only a concussion and would be observed for 24 hours.
According to family statements, the man was with a group of snowmobilers, none of whom were caught in the avalanche itself. He was reportedly at the base of the slope when the avalanche occurred.
Other Injuries Reported
In addition to the Norwegian man, two Finnish nationals were similarly taken to the hospital following the avalanche. These individuals were not part of the same group as the man from Tromsø.
