Marvel Studios re-released Avengers: Endgame in theaters under the title Avengers: Endgame Encore, featuring new footage designed to bridge the gap toward the upcoming December 18 release of Avengers: Doomsday. Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, the theatrical event tacks brand-new sequences onto the end of the 2019 blockbuster alongside multiple post-credits scenes that establish major multiversal stakes for the fifth Avengers installment.
Loki Interrrupts Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter’s Dance
The re-release alters the original conclusion of Avengers: Endgame, which traditionally cut to black after Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) shared a romantic dance in the past. In Avengers: Endgame Encore, the scene continues when an unexpected knock sounds on the door. Peggy answers to find Loki (Tom Hiddleston) standing outside in his Time Variance Authority (TVA) uniform.
Loki offers his assistance to the couple, telling them, “I believe I can help you. Both of you.” Steve then emerges from his hiding place behind a wall to confront the Avengers’ first villain. This version of Loki is the character who utilized the Tesseract in 2012, worked alongside the TVA, and ultimately became the God of Stories who watches over all branched realities. The footage cuts to credits before revealing what specific aid Loki intends to provide.
Doctor Doom Targets Bruce Banner in Post-Credits Sequence
Following the extended conclusion, Avengers: Endgame Encore introduces three post-credits sequences. The first focuses on Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), operating in self-imposed exile two miles underground in an old military base. Banner retreated underground following the events of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, where Jean Grey’s mind control triggered a severe Hulk incident.
While recording a video log detailing his work on a new gamma suppression serum, Banner’s equipment begins glitching. Unfamiliar green runes—identical to those appearing on Doctor Doom’s armor in other trailers—illuminate the bunker. Doctor Doom breaches the facility, tells Banner he is “here to collect you,” and leaves Banner’s fate unresolved as the Hulk roars and the camera cuts to black.
The TVA Monitors Multiversal Collisions
A subsequent post-credits scene shifts to TVA headquarters, where agency officials including Mobius (Owen Wilson), Ouroboros (Ke Huy Quan), and Casey (Eugene Cordero) monitor escalating crises on their viewing screens. What initially resembles standard incursions between two alternate Earths rapidly escalates into thousands of universes colliding simultaneously.
Ouroboros announces that “The multiverse is collapsing,” establishing narrative groundwork for the convergence of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s main timeline, Fox’s X-Men universe, and the Fantastic Four’s reality in Avengers: Doomsday.
Doctor Doom Forges His Mask
The final teaser at the very end of the credits features the auditory callback of a hammer striking metal—the same sound that closed out the original 2019 theatrical release to signify Tony Stark forging his armor. In Avengers: Endgame Encore, brief visual flashes recontextualize the audio, showing Victor Von Doom forging and donning his own mask. The sequence hints at a parallel trajectory between Stark and Doom as Avengers: Doomsday approaches its December 18 theatrical debut.
