Simpson’s in the Strand: Jeremy King Revives London Icon for 2026

As BAFTA night tradition dictates, the stars of this year’s biggest films decamped from the Royal Festival Hall to celebrate at the newly revived Simpson’s in the Strand. The historic restaurant, under the direction of restaurateur Jeremy King, hosted the British Vogue and British GQ Fashion & Film party, marking its official relaunch after a six-year closure.

A Storied Past, A Bold Future

Simpson’s in the Strand first opened its doors in 1828 and became a London institution, famed for its traditional British cuisine and grand setting. However, the restaurant closed in 2020 [1]. Now, just shy of its bicentennial, Jeremy King is spearheading its return in early 2026 [1]. King, likewise known for his function on Arlington and The Park [2], aims to restore Simpson’s to its former glory.

What to Expect at the Revived Simpson’s

The revitalized Simpson’s will feature multiple dining and drinking spaces, including the Grand Divan and Romano’s dining rooms, Simpson’s Bar, Nellie’s and a private ballroom – the Assembly Room – capable of seating 100 guests [1]. The renovation will retain many of the building’s original period features, including the iconic roasts carved tableside from antique silver-domed trolleys in the Grand Divan [1].

The restaurant will offer a range of dining experiences. The Grand Divan will maintain a traditional British menu, whereas Romano’s will provide a more flexible and affordable option [1]. A late-night speakeasy, Nellie’s, will also be part of the offering, complete with a separate street entrance and weekend license [3].

Jeremy King’s Vision

The project represents Jeremy King’s most ambitious undertaking to date [3]. He describes it as his “magnum opus” [3], and the scale of the renovation reflects this ambition, encompassing kitchens, service areas, and multiple entrances [3]. King’s memoir, Without Reservation: Lessons from a Life in Restaurants, was released in conjunction with the Simpson’s relaunch [2].

Simpson’s in the Strand is located at 100 Strand, London, WC2R 0EW [1].
