Balearic Islands Announces €900,000 in Grants for Audiovisual Production

According to an official statement released by the Conselleria, the funding cycle aims to strengthen the industrial fabric of the local film and media sector. The program focuses on backing quality projects that carry clear potential for national and international distribution.

Funding Distribution and Multi-Year Allocation

The total financial envelope of €900,000 is distributed across a multi-year framework spanning three budgetary exercises, according to the Conselleria. The administration allocated €500,000 to the 2026 fiscal year, followed by €200,000 for 2027 and an additional €200,000 for 2028.

Officials structured the credit across four distinct project categories to accommodate different formats:

  • Feature-length films (fiction and animation): A total of €350,000 is available, with individual projects eligible for a maximum grant of €175,000.
  • Television documentary features: Allocated €250,000 in total funding, capping individual awards at €80,000.
  • Miniseries and web series (fiction, animation, or documentary): Backed by €200,000, with a maximum limit of €100,000 per project.
  • Short films (fiction, animation, and documentary): Provided with €100,000 total, capping individual grants at €25,000.

Territorial Requirements and Local Talent Incentives

The regulatory bases of the call prioritize territorial ties and the development of local cultural industries, as stated in the official release. Evaluation criteria award points based on specific operational metrics, including the percentage of shooting days completed within the Balearic Islands.

Additional scoring factors examine whether key creative and technical personnel were born in or maintain residence on the islands, alongside the recruitment of local acting talent. Furthermore, the evaluation process favors productions utilizing the Catalan language in their original versions and implements gender equality criteria across key production roles.

For specific formats, the program enforces environmental compliance. The regulatory framework mandates the submission of a carbon footprint reduction plan for applicants seeking support within the fiction feature, animation feature, and series categories.

Application Timeline and Procedures

Production teams must submit applications within 15 business days following the day after the resolution’s publication in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB). The Conselleria stated that all administrative procedures must be completed electronically via the official electronic office platform.
