A bedroom fire broke out in a residential unit along Balestier Road, prompting a swift response from emergency services and leaving no reported injuries, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).
Balestier Apartment Fire Details and SCDF Response
The fire broke out inside a bedroom of an apartment unit at 379 Balestier Road, according to the SCDF. Firefighters from the Bishan Fire Station rushed to the scene after receiving an alert regarding the blaze. Upon arrival, emergency personnel discovered that the fire was confined to the contents of a single bedroom.
Crews used a compressed air foam backpack and a water jet to extinguish the flames quickly. Preliminary investigations by the SCDF indicate that the fire originated from a personal mobility device (PMD) battery that was left charging in the bedroom.
Evacuation and Resident Safety Status
About 20 residents from the affected block evacuated the building independently before SCDF firefighters arrived. Emergency services checked the surrounding units for smoke damage and structural integrity, confirming that no injuries occurred during the incident.
Authorities reminded the public about the fire safety risks associated with leaving personal mobility devices and power-assisted bicycles charging unattended for extended periods, particularly overnight.
