New Hardware Store Planned for Former Twin Towns Service Station in Ballybofey

Ballybofey, County Donegal, is set to welcome a new hardware store at the site of the former Barnes View Filling Station and TSA Tyre Centre. The development, spearheaded by Glenside Stores Ltd, received planning permission from Donegal County Council this week, signaling a boost for local commerce and a revitalization of a prominent site.

Site Acquisition and Development Plans

Paddy Gallen of Glenside Stores Ltd acquired the 2.63-acre property, including 1.56 acres of undeveloped zoned land, in early June 2025. The company subsequently submitted plans for a 558.2 sq.m (6,000 sq.ft) warehouse and store to the rear of the existing retail premises on the Donegal Road. The approved development likewise includes an accessible storage yard, a vehicle turning area, and parking facilities. Donegal Daily reported on the initial planning application in August 2025.

Fuel Pumps to Reopen

In June 2025, Paddy Gallen indicated that the fuel pumps at the site would be reopened in the near future. This suggests a phased approach to the site’s redevelopment, combining retail, hardware supplies, and fuel services.

History of the Site

The Barnes View Filling Station and TSA Tyre Centre, established in 1980, were jointly owned by Pat Maguire, a well-known local figure who passed away in 2019. The site has remained a landmark in Ballybofey, and its redevelopment represents a continuation of commercial activity in the area.

Local Impact
