During the last two decades, Barcelona and Spain have undergone a profound conversion of their digital ecosystem. What began as an initial effort to attract technology companies has now solidified into an undeniable reality: Spain is one of the most dynamic digital talent hubs in Europe. This evolution stems from the consistent work of companies, universities, research centers, administrations, and professionals who anticipated a structural change in the global economy.

Barcelona has undoubtedly been a key driver of this growth. The city successfully combines quality of life, international attraction capacity, and an innovative business ecosystem that has encouraged the arrival of technology centers, startups, and large global companies. However,this phenomenon is no longer limited to the Catalan capital. Madrid, Malaga, the Basque Country, and Valencia have developed digital hubs in recent years, reinforcing Spain’s position as a technological node of increasing relevance in Europe.

This territorial expansion of the digital ecosystem directly impacts the labor market. The latest report, Digital Talent Overview 2025,prepared by Mobile World Capital,confirms that the growth of digital employment is considerably outpacing the overall economy. Specifically, Barcelona now boasts nearly 130,000 digital professionals, a 6% increase in the last year, representing 6% of the city’s total employment. Furthermore, the creation of technological jobs multiplies the growth rate of the general labor market by six.
