Steve Barker’s Simba SC have bowed out of the CAF Champions League after playing to a 1-1 draw against Angolan giants Petro Athletico in Group D.
Simba coach Steve Barker yet again started countryman Rushine De Reuck in defence, with Neo Maema not in the match day squad.
It was a slow start for the Tanzanian giants who fell behind in the 13th minute as Pedro Pinto netted the opener following a delivery by Benny.
Barker’s outfit rallied back having had Shomari Kapombe dismissed late in the first half and snatched a point with nine minutes to play through Anicet Oura, however it was not enough to save their campaign.
Power Dynamos 2-0 RS Berkane
Power Dynamos shocked Morocco’s RS Berkane 2-0 to cement third spot in Group D and strengthened their hopes of reaching the knockout stages.
The Moroccan champions were able to hold their own in the opening period, but were behind a minute at the resumption through Ronel Manyanga.
Dynamos made the points safe at the death through Prince Mumba as the Zambian giants record back-to-back victories to go within touching distance of the knockout stages.
FAR Rabat 1-0 Young Africans
FAR Rabat leaned closer to the quarter-finals after securing a late 1-0 win over Young Africans in a tightly contested encounter in Group B.
With time running out, ASFAR got over the line much to disappointed of the visitors as Anas Bach netted five minutes to the end and secure the maximum points.
JS Kabyile 0-0 Al Ahly SC
Al Ahly qualified for the quarter-finals after a goalless draw against Algeria’s JS Kabyile on Saturday evening.
Kabyile, who are managed by former Orlando Pirates coach Josef Zinnbaeur are yet to record a win in the group stages and have now been eliminated.
On the other hand, Ahly remain at the top of the table and booked their spot in the knockout stage with a game to spare.
