Sacramento Kings Guard Ben Simmons Suffers Season-Ending Achilles Tear
Ben Simmons tore the Achilles tendon in his right leg during a team training session, ending his 2026–27 NBA season before playing a single regular-season game for the Sacramento Kings, lapresse.it reported.
Shams Charania of ESPN initially reported the injury on October 18, 2026, which a subsequent magnetic resonance imaging scan confirmed. The 30-year-old Melbourne native signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with Sacramento after sitting out since April 2025 following a stint with the Los Angeles Clippers and a subsequent sabbatical.

Preseason Promise Cut Short by Injury
The training camp and preseason had offered encouraging signs for the former top draft pick. Simmons displayed a physical condition that suggested he had overcome the chronic back issues requiring multiple surgeries that derailed his career in previous seasons.
Simmons entered the league as the number-one overall pick in the 2016 NBA Draft, selected ahead of players such as Jaylen Brown and Jamal Murray. During his seven seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers, he earned NBA Rookie of the Year honors, three All-Star selections, two All-Defensive Team nods, and an All-NBA selection.
Following a trade to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021, injuries limited his playing time. He subsequently joined the Clippers during the 2025 season before spending time away from the court.
Social Media Statement and Career Outlook
Simmons addressed the latest setback through a statement on Instagram. “I’ve faced many challenges before that have tested me mentally, physically, and emotionally, and I’ve always found a way to overcome them,” Simmons wrote.
