New Jersey Man Charged with Arson After Livestreaming Apartment Fire

Lyndhurst, NJ – A 42-year-old Bergen County man is facing arson charges after allegedly setting fire to his apartment building and broadcasting the act live on Facebook, authorities announced on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.

Details of the Incident

Alexander Pluchino, of Lyndhurst, has been charged with aggravated arson, among other offenses, following a fire at 522 Valley Brook Avenue on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at approximately 8:25 a.m.

Lyndhurst police and fire officials responded to the scene after receiving reports of a fire in a shared hallway. Upon arrival, officers extinguished the flames and discovered Pluchino near the source of the fire.

Livestreamed Act

According to the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, Pluchino livestreamed the incident on his Facebook page. The video reportedly showed him preparing a pile of cardboard and other flammable materials on the stairs. He then ignited the pile while loud rap music played in the background and displayed a handwritten message referencing insurance claims.

A fire extinguisher was visible nearby, but Pluchino proceeded to set the materials ablaze.

Charges and Arrest

Pluchino has been charged with aggravated arson, risk of widespread injury or damage, fourth-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree failure to take responsible measure to put out, control, or report a fire.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await a court appearance. Notably, Pluchino was arrested just days prior to the arson incident on a vandalism charge.
