Sergen Yalçın Reflects on Beşiktaş Victory and Future improvements
Beşiktaş coach Sergen Yalçın expressed cautious optimism following a narrow 1-0 victory, acknowledging the team’s struggles while highlighting their resilience and commitment. Speaking after the match on January 20, 2026, Yalçın admitted the game presented meaningful challenges in breaking down the opposition and defending against counter-attacks.
“It was a difficult game, we had difficulty in opening the opponent.We also gave positions through counters,” Yalçın stated. He emphasized the importance of the late winner, viewing it as a positive sign for the team’s future growth. “Winning in the 90+s was good for the future.”
Yalçın praised the players’ effort and unity, especially noting they were operating with a depleted squad. he also revealed a tactical shift during the match, deploying two attackers – a strategy not typically employed by the team – in a bid to secure the win. “The players fought hard, you know we were lacking… Despite that, there was unity and solidarity on the field.We turned to two attackers, this is not something we normally do, we took risks.”
While celebrating the positive result, Yalçın remained realistic about areas needing enhancement. He acknowledged existing shortcomings within the squad and affirmed the team is actively working to address them. “1-0 is a happy score, but we have shortcomings, the players are working seriously. I hope we will be happier if we play better games and get better scores.”
