According to Fairchild, the unexpected encounter occurred at a crowded Hollywood gala where the two-time Oscar winner approached her with words of absolute support.

According to the Falcon Crest star, people automatically assumed the late-night host had simply “dumped the blonde,” but she confirmed, “Indeed, I broke up with him.”
The truth behind the split did not escape Bette Davis. Fairchild recalled attending a major gala at the Hilton hotel when she felt a tap on her shoulder.
