Betterment Expands Financial Solutions with Mortgage Partnership and RIA Model Marketplace

Betterment, a leading digital wealth management platform, continues to broaden its offerings with initiatives aimed at both retail investors and independent registered investment advisors (RIAs). Recent announcements include a partnership with Rate to provide mortgage benefits to Betterment clients and an expanded Model Marketplace for RIAs, offering access to institutional investment strategies.

Mortgage Partnership with Rate

Betterment has partnered with Rate, a mortgage fintech company, to offer exclusive incentives to eligible Betterment clients purchasing a primary residence. Clients with at least $100,000 in combined investing and cash assets on the Betterment platform may qualify for a discount of up to 0.75% on interest rates for qualifying FHA or conventional 30-year fixed mortgages on single-family detached homes. A $500 credit toward closing costs is also available.

These incentives are based on prevailing national averages and require strong credit profiles, with final terms subject to individual creditworthiness, loan details, and underwriting approval. The program is available across all 50 states, leveraging Rate’s licensing, and runs through December 31, 2026.

“Buying a home represents a major milestone, and this collaboration adds a practical benefit for clients ready to take that step,” said Mike Reust, President of Betterment. Victor Ciardelli, CEO of Rate, emphasized the program’s focus on transparency and a streamlined digital mortgage process.

Expanded Model Marketplace for RIAs

Betterment Advisor Solutions has launched an expanded Model Marketplace designed for independent RIAs. The marketplace provides access to turnkey portfolio strategies from prominent institutional asset managers, including Goldman Sachs Asset Management, State Street Investment Management, and Vanguard. Betterment Advisor Solutions is a tech-enabled custodian built for independent RIAs.

These models integrate seamlessly with Betterment’s custodial platform, combining institutional expertise with the company’s automated tax management and rebalancing technology. RIAs can customize the models to align with their firm’s philosophies and client objectives although maintaining control over client relationships.

The marketplace aims to reduce operational complexity and overhead for advisors, enabling them to serve more clients efficiently within a single integrated system that also supports cash management, 401(k) plans, and customizable billing. No additional fees apply beyond standard platform costs.

“The marketplace lets firms incorporate institutional strategies with minimal added burden, paired with our automated tax management to support advisors scale sustainably,” explained Alison Considine, Director of Strategy & Operations at Betterment Advisor Solutions.
