Bijou Phillips Undergoes Successful Kidney Transplant After Public Health Appeal
Model Bijou Phillips has successfully undergone a kidney transplant, confirming the procedure on social media following a search for a donor. Phillips, the daughter of Mamas & the Papas founder John Phillips, had previously disclosed that she was in urgent need of a transplant to survive.
The Transplant Procedure and Recovery
On Tuesday, Phillips shared an update on Instagram featuring a photo of herself in a hospital gown. She confirmed that a “voucher program” facilitated the process, allowing her to be matched with a donor. According to Phillips, the surgical team at UCLA Health, led by Dr. Jeffrey Veale, performed the operation. She reported a swift initial recovery, noting that five days after the surgery, she felt like she did four months after her last surgery.
Dr. Veale has been credited by Phillips for the success of the operation.
Family Involvement in Donor Exchanges
Phillips revealed that her brother participated in a kidney exchange. “My wonderful brother donated in the kidney exchange! He saved a life, and the life he saved had a special person donate for them, and then a few weeks later!” Phillips stated in her public announcement.
