Blackhawks Recall Top Prospect Anton Frondell
The Chicago Blackhawks have recalled forward Anton Frondell, 18, from Djurgårdens IF of the Swedish Hockey League (SHL), the team announced Tuesday, March 24, 2026. The recall comes ahead of the Blackhawks’ game against the Modern York Islanders tonight at UBS Arena.
Frondell, selected by Chicago with the third overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, has shown significant offensive prowess this season. He recorded 28 points (20 goals, 8 assists) in 43 regular-season games with Djurgårdens IF. His 20 goals led all SHL rookies and tied for fourth in overall team scoring.
Record-Breaking SHL Performance
Frondell’s performance places him among elite company in SHL history. He became the fourth 18-year-old to score at least 20 goals in a season, joining Thomas Sandstrom, Markus Naslund, and Daniel Sedin. He also contributed with two points (1 goal, 1 assist) in three SHL postseason games, including a game-winning goal in overtime.
International Success
The young forward also recently represented Team Sweden at the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he earned Best Forward honors and was named to the All-Star Team. He logged eight points (5 goals, 3 assists) in seven games, sharing second place among all tournament skaters and leading Team Sweden with five goals.
Previous HockeyAllsvenskan Championship
Prior to joining Djurgårdens in the SHL, Frondell played for the team when it was in HockeyAllsvenskan, Sweden’s second-best pro league. He scored 11 goals and 25 points in 29 regular-season games, helping Djurgårdens win the league championship and earn promotion to the SHL. He was named the HockeyAllsvenskan Rookie of the Year.
