Bloodborne Remake Prospects Dim Following Bluepoint Games Closure
Hopes for a Bloodborne remake or remaster have significantly diminished following Sony’s decision to close Bluepoint Games, the studio renowned for its high-quality remakes and remasters. The closure, announced on February 20, 2026, marks a significant setback for fans who have long anticipated a next-generation version of the critically acclaimed action RPG.
Bluepoint Games: A Legacy of Remakes
Bluepoint Games established itself as a leading developer in the remake and remaster space with titles like Demon’s Souls (2020), Shadow of the Colossus (2018), and the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection. The studio’s expertise made it a natural candidate to revitalize Bloodborne, a PlayStation 4 exclusive that has garnered a dedicated following and persistent calls for a remake. Sony acquired Bluepoint Games in 2021 TheGamer.
FromSoftware’s Role and Sony’s Strategy
Although a remake by the original developer, FromSoftware, was considered unlikely due to their focus on new IPs and existing franchises, the expectation was that Sony would task Bluepoint Games with the project. The closure of Bluepoint casts doubt on this scenario, as few other PlayStation Studios possess the same level of specialized experience in remakes.
Sony’s recent shift towards live-service games also played a role in the studio’s closure. Bluepoint Games was previously working on a live-service God of War game, which was ultimately canceled in early 2025 TheGamer. The studio then spent a year pitching new projects before the decision to close was made.
Fan Projects and Emulation
Despite the official setbacks, fan interest in Bloodborne remains strong. Several fan-made projects, such as Bloodborne: Top Down Arena, have emerged, but these have faced legal challenges from Sony regarding trademark infringement NotebookCheck. Developer Maxime Foulquier was warned about trademark violations in March 2025 and subsequently ceased work on the project.
PC gamers have also found a way to experience Bloodborne through the shadPS4 emulator, which allows for enhanced visuals and frame rates, though setup can be complex and requires a powerful PC NotebookCheck.
The Future of Bloodborne
The closure of Bluepoint Games significantly reduces the likelihood of a Bloodborne remake in the near future. While a remaster or PC port remain possibilities, the loss of a dedicated remake studio represents a major blow to fans hoping for a modernized version of the beloved game. The future of the franchise remains uncertain as Sony continues to evaluate its development strategy.
