Ukrainian Woman Detained for Alleged Involvement in Car Bombing Targeting NSU Serviceman
Kyiv, Ukraine – January 5, 2024 – Ukrainian security services have detained a woman in Kyiv suspected of involvement in a car bombing that injured a serviceman of the National Security Unit (NSU) and a civilian companion.the incident occurred on January 4th, according to reports from Ukrainian news outlet Pravda.com.ua.
The suspect, a resident of Kyiv, allegedly received instructions and a payment of $1,500 to plant an explosive device under the vehicle of the NSU serviceman. She was reportedly provided with the car’s make, model, and the location were it was parked.
The bombing took place as the serviceman, who was on leave in the capital, opened the trunk of his car. The explosion resulted in mine-explosion injuries and shrapnel wounds to the leg of the NSU serviceman. His companion sustained injuries to her right hand and facial bruises.
Ukrainian authorities have stated they will seek a detention order from the court. The suspect is also under investigation for allegedly setting fire to a military vehicle in December of last year.
The investigation is ongoing.
