A Blue Point colt wildcarded into Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale surged from a 215,000gns foal purchase to fetch 600,000gns on Monday, spearheading a busy opening session at Park Paddocks, the Racing Post reported. Consigned by Ballyhimikin Stud, the half-brother to Group 1 performer Flotus had initially missed Book 1 due to a travel issue before securing a late entry.
Ballyhimikin Stud Recovers From Travel Hurdles
The punchy pinhook looked to have derailed when the colt encountered transport complications ahead of the premier yearling showcase. Jack Hanly, representing Ballyhimikin Stud, explained that management evaluated the situation once the youngster arrived in Newmarket and determined the setback was minor enough to keep him on-site.
We hit a bit of a speed bump when the horse had trouble travelling over,
Jack Hanly told the Racing Post. Once he was here we found that it wasn’t bad enough that we had to bring him home. We kept him here and because he’s such a good horse… we went to Tatts and asked if they’d take him as a wildcard.
Blandford Bloodstock’s Richard Brown ultimately secured the lot with a 600,000gns bid. Brown noted that the colt would have turned heads during the previous week’s elite catalogue, praising both the sire’s momentum and the dam Floriade’s proven record with Flotus.
Anthony Stroud Secures Lope De Vega Filly For Peter Harris
Hillwood Stud presented a Lope De Vega filly out of My Eyes Adore You late in the evening session, drawing a competitive bidding duel before Anthony Stroud landed the lot at 550,000gns. The Listed-winning dam joined First Bloodstock’s broodmare band in 2023 for 380,000gns, generating an immediate return on that investment with her very first foal.
The filly will race in the green, yellow, and red silks of nonagenarian owner Peter Harris, whose recent flagbearers include July Cup winner Mill Stream and Group 3 Valiant Stakes victress Kon Tiki.
I thought she’s a lovely filly, we all loved her, although that was a little bit more than I thought she was going to cost,
Stroud said. She will be owned by Peter Harris. I’m very grateful for his involvement, enthusiasm and direction.
Emmet Mullins and Amo Racing Team Up For Frankel Colt
Trainer Emmet Mullins partnered with Kia Joorabchian’s Amo Racing to purchase a Hillwood Stud-consigned colt by Frankel for 475,000gns. The youngster is out of Kurious, a Group 3 Coral Charge winner and sibling to elite-level sprinters Alpha Delphini and Tangerine Trees. Joorabchian noted that the colt possessed the signature traits of his sire combined with an earlier, speedier physical profile.
We saw a couple in Book 1 and obviously the prices just kept going up and up and up,
Joorabchian told Tattersalls. We’ve bought him together with Paul Byrne for Emmet. We underbid a couple together in Book 1.
Cheveley Park Stud Adds Night Of Thunder Filly
Following a heavy acquisition drive during Book 1 where five yearlings were secured for 2,150,000gns, Cheveley Park Stud added a Carisbrooke Stud-consigned daughter of Night Of Thunder for 450,000gns. Bred from the Footstepsinthesand mare Impulsion, the athletic filly caught the eye of managing director Chris Richardson, who humorously attributed the purchase to a sudden urge.
It was a bit of an Impulsion really!
Richardson told the Racing Post. She’s a lovely, athletic filly with a wonderful mind, and Night Of Thunder is a sire who’s had a phenomenal year.
Godolphin Continues Spending Spree With Starspangledbanner Colt
Godolphin maintained its heavy presence following a 26,910,000gns outlay across Book 1, adding five lots on Monday for 1,455,000gns. The operation’s highest purchase of the session was a 400,000gns Starspangledbanner colt consigned by Glenvale Stud. The youngster’s page features Oaks heroine Dancing Rain and Classic producer Maybe, anchoring an illustrious pedigree that attracted scouting agent Anthony Stroud.
Market Demands For Apple Tree Stud Sea The Stars Colt
Apple Tree Stud collected 400,000gns when Anthony Stroud purchased their Sea The Stars colt out of Heavenly Breath. Stud manager Robert ‘Choc’ Thornton reported that prospective buyers took time to warm to the homebred youngster due to his developing physical profile, though late competition justified the valuation.
