Boathouse Tiki Bar Eyes 2027 Return to Cape Coral Yacht Club Following Fire and Lease Agreement

The Boathouse Tiki Bar & Grill at the Cape Coral Yacht Club remains closed two years after a destructive fire, with owner Zak Kearns targeting a 2027 reopening as city infrastructure work progresses. Kearns Restaurant Group signed a 30-year lease agreement with the City of Cape Coral nearly a year ago, initiating a rebuilding process that must align with the broader yacht club master plan, the Bradenton Herald reported.

The original waterfront structure at 5819 Driftwood Parkway was destroyed by an electrical fire that started downstairs in a cooler. Kearns, whose restaurant group also operates Izzy’s and Capone’s, stated that he is eager to resume operations at the site. City crews have recently completed seawall construction, though the top cap installation remains pending before private construction can advance.

Design and Expansion Plans for the New Waterfront Footprint

Architects and engineers are currently finalizing designs for the rebuilt Cape Coral location, which will span both sides of the pier connected by a bridge. The enhanced footprint will cover approximately 18,000 square feet, featuring a two-story tiki structure with a mezzanine, three distinct bars, and an expanded kitchen capable of producing a broader menu including pastas and composed entrees.

Kearns noted that the layout will incorporate a lower area with cabanas and beach-level food and beverage service. Despite the larger scale, the ownership group intends to maintain the character of the original venue while constructing a hurricane-resistant building designed to endure for decades.

Concurrent Terminal Opening at Southwest Florida International Airport

While awaiting permits in Cape Coral, Kearns Restaurant Group expanded its footprint on October 6, 2026, by opening a new Boathouse location inside the main terminal of Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW) in Fort Myers. Developed through a 10-year deal operated by HMSHost, the pre-TSA restaurant serves daily breakfast and an all-day seafood-focused menu adapted from the brand’s core staples.

The airport project involved a five-year coordination process. Once ongoing terminal construction concludes, the restaurant will operate as the primary dining option immediately following TSA screening.

Operational Status at Sweetwater Landing Marina

The brand’s other regional venue, located at Sweetwater Landing Marina off State Road 31 in Fort Myers, continues operating after opening in July 2018. That property features an open-air tiki, a heated pool, docks, and a beach area, serving as the sole waterfront dining establishment in that specific market corridor.
