Boise State Gymnastics Heads to California for Saturday Showdown
BERKELEY, CA – The Boise State gymnastics team (12-4, 4-1 MW) will travel to Berkeley, California, to compete against the No. 15 California Golden Bears on Saturday, March 7, at 5 p.m. MT. The competition will take place at Haas Pavilion.

Scouting California
California enters the meet ranked 15th nationally with a National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 196.539. The Golden Bears excel on bars, holding a 10th-ranked NQS of 49.296. Freshman Tonya Paulsson is fourth in the nation on bars with an NQS of 9.930 and 13th in the all-around with a 39.375. Geralen Stack-Eaton is in her first season as head coach, previously serving as an assistant coach for Minnesota for 11 years.
Broncos Coming Off Season-Best Performance
On March 1, Boise State achieved a season-high team score of 196.275 at a quad meet hosted by San Jose State. The Broncos as well recorded season-best scores on vault (49.150) and floor (49.275). Julia Krzywanski earned a share of the vault title with a 9.900, her first career win, while Blake Pascal secured a share of the floor title with a 9.900, her fifth career win.
Flourishing on Floor
Boise State’s performance on floor at San Jose State was its best of the season, scoring a 49.275. Blake Pascal led the way with a 9.900, sharing the event crown. Anna Ferguson (9.875), Delaney Reeves (9.850), and Kristina Shchennikova (9.825) all posted career-best routines, and Miraya Nero added a 9.825. This was the Broncos’ highest floor score since March 14, 2025.
Big Scores on Vault
The Broncos swept the quad meet at San Jose State, in part due to a season-best 49.150 on vault, their best score since February 28, 2025. Julia Krzywanski captured her first event title with a career-high 9.900, while Noelle Ball added a career-best 9.850. Bridget Kemp matched her career-high with a 9.825, and Sydney Kho tallied a 9.800.
Pascal Earns MW Honors
Blake Pascal was named Mountain West Co-Floor Specialist of the Week following her 9.900 routine and event crown at San Jose State. This is the first weekly conference award of her career. She is the third Bronco to earn a conference award this season and the fifth to do so in her career, bringing the Broncos’ total to five MW weekly awards in 2026.
Strong Bar Performance
At Utah State on February 20, Boise State posted a season-best 49.050 on bars. Mahleea Werline led the way with a season-high 9.850, with Carly Buell and Noelle Ball tallying season-bests of their own at 9.825. Kristina Shchennikova added a 9.825, and Kylee Hamby rounded out the rotation with a 9.725. This was the first time the Broncos scored 9.825 or better on four bars routines since the 2025 Mountain West Championships.
Beam Excellence
Boise State had its best beam rotation of the season at the February 15 Metroplex Challenge, scoring 49.125. Miraya Nero and Kristina Shchennikova led the way with 9.900s, both posting career-highs and becoming the first Broncos to tally a 9.900 in any event this season. This was the first time the team had multiple 9.900+ beam scores in a meet since the 2024 Mountain West Championships.
Freshman Standout
Miraya Nero has been a consistent performer for the Broncos. She won the all-around crown at BYU on January 16 with a 39.075 and tied for second on beam with a 9.825. She posted a career-high 9.850 on floor on January 30 and was the vault runner-up at the Metroplex Challenge on February 15, scoring 9.850. At Utah State, she captured her second all-around crown, becoming the first Boise State freshman to win two all-around titles since 2017. At San Jose State on March 1, she earned a career-high 9.800 on bars and notched the program’s best all-around score (39.125) since 2021.
Head Coach Tina Bird
Head coach Tina Bird is in her 19th season at the helm, having served as co-head coach from 2008-19 before becoming the sole head coach in 2020. She was an assistant coach from 1990-2007 and a gymnast for Boise State from 1986-89. In her 36 years on staff, Boise State has earned 34 NCAA Regional appearances, 15 conference titles, and 13 All-Americans. Bird has been named conference coach of the year eight times, including the last two awards in the Mountain West.
