Amazon MGM Studios Sets Final Screen Tests in London
The search for the next James Bond is entering its final stage as Amazon MGM Studios prepares to conduct screen tests in London starting as early as Friday, according to Hollywood trade publications. At least four actors have been offered auditions for the role of 007, with Slow Horses star Jack Lowden, Fantastic Beasts actor Callum Turner, and The Crown star Josh O’Connor among the contenders expected to participate, Deadline reported.
The auditions will continue through next week after being pushed back from earlier in the month due to scheduling conflicts among the finalists, according to Deadline. The tests will evaluate the actors across three primary components: stunts, camera presence, and dialogue. While trade reports indicate at least three to five actors are part of this final group, The Hollywood Reporter noted that actors Jack O’Connell and Jacob Elordi are not among those testing for the role.

Amazon MGM Studios has declined to confirm the names of the actors participating in the upcoming screen tests. When contacted by trade outlets, representatives pointed to an earlier statement regarding the ongoing search:

Studio executives previously urged fans to exercise patience during the casting process. In April, Courtenay Valenti, the company’s head of film, noted that producers are taking the time to make the decision with care and deep respect for the franchise.
Denis Villeneuve Directs New Era for 007 Franchise
The upcoming film marks the first installment in the franchise since Amazon MGM Studios acquired creative control from longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson following an $8.45 billion deal in 2022 and a subsequent buyout of creative rights in February 2025, The Guardian and The Hollywood Reporter reported. Daniel Craig previously held the role for five films, concluding his tenure with 2021’s No Time to Die.

Behind the camera, Dune filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is attached to direct the project. Steven Knight, creator of Peaky Blinders, wrote the screenplay, while Amy Pascal and David Heyman serve as producers overseeing the development of the film for the studio.
