Bonn Basketball: Internal Conflict and Loss to Ulm

The Telekom Baskets Bonn suffered a 84-77 defeat against Ulm, a game marked by both on-court competition and visible tension within the Bonn team. The loss to Ulm not only resulted in a point deduction but also highlighted internal friction that boiled over on the sidelines.

Throughout the first half, Bonn’s defense presented challenges for Ulm, but the game saw constant lead changes. In the third quarter, Ulm managed to create a six-point lead (50-44). However, Bonn quickly responded with ten points from Jeff Garrett and Joel Aminu, regaining the lead before the end of the quarter (61-58). With five minutes remaining, a layup by Michael Kessens gave Bonn an eight-point advantage (70-62).

Sideline Altercation

The turning point occurred when Ulm went on a 12-0 run, taking the lead at 74-72. Despite Bonn’s attempts with timeouts, they struggled with turnovers in the final minutes, ultimately losing the game 84-77. The game was preceded by a visible dispute on the Bonn bench. During a timeout, Tylan Birts, who was seated near the bench, confronted teammate Alijah Comithier, leading to a physical exchange where Comithier pushed Birts back towards the other players. Teammates observed the incident without intervening initially, and Birts required restraint from other team members to de-escalate the situation.

Bonn’s Sport Director, Savo Milovic, commented on the incident, stating that Birts often expresses strong opinions and that Comithier was asked to address Birts’ comments about needing to sprint rather than walk on the court.

Ulm’s Justin Simon, the game’s top scorer with 16 points, emphasized the importance of the win for their standings. Bonn’s Jeff Garrett, with 23 points, acknowledged that they lost momentum but maintained their belief in the team’s overall strength.
