Borisov: Budget‘s future hinges on Consensus

GERB leader Boyko Borisov addressed journalists in the National Assembly following a meeting at the Ministry of Finance regarding the 2026 draft budget. He emphasized that future progress depends entirely on reaching a consensus among political parties, trade unions, and employers’ organizations.

borisov stated the cabinet has effectively withdrawn the budget due to the lack of a Budget Committee meeting. “These people are constantly playing with words; every statement echoes what I said. I stated this budget wouldn’t be reviewed. Consider it withdrawn. Nothing will happen until we reach an understanding with unions, employers, and other parties,” he said, responding to PP-DB’s calls for the official withdrawal of the financial framework.

He outlined three potential paths forward. The first is the formal withdrawal of the budget. The second involves reaching an agreement with trade union and employer structures,including on contentious issues like the dividend tax.
