Impex Records announced that the limited edition release will be restricted to 2,500 individually numbered pressings. The package features a deluxe tip-on gatefold jacket with heavy stock, a tipped-in booklet, a rare and exclusive new interview with Tom Scholz conducted by Chuck Granata, and carefully curated photography, alongside an exclusive guitar pick and poster. Lacquer cutting for the release was supervised by Chuck Granata and Bob Donnelly, with executive production by Abey Fonn. The physical release is slated to include an 180g 33rpm pearl gold vinyl LP alongside a bonus pearl gold 45rpm 12-inch vinyl EP.

Restoring the Legendary Lost Demos

For this anniversary edition, band founder Tom Scholz dug into his personal archives to retrieve the original, unreleased demos that he used to shop the band to record labels prior to signing with Epic Records. Scholz restored and remastered these recordings with the assistance of producer and guitarist Gary Pihl, keeping them in their original sonic state. This marks the first time fans can compare the final album versions back-to-back with the early basement recordings.

The Historical Impact and Chart Success of Boston

Released in late summer 1976 on CBS’s Epic Records, the debut album quickly climbed the charts, staying on the Billboard 200 for 132 weeks and peaking at No. 3. MIT graduate Tom Scholz recorded the vast majority of the tracks in his basement studio while working as an engineer at Polaroid by day, pioneering a distinct blend of non-blues-based rhythms and space-age guitar effects that helped define arena rock. The album’s lead single, “More Than a Feeling,” entered the Billboard Hot 100 on September 18, 1976, peaking at No. 5 on Christmas Day and spending 19 weeks on the chart, while the follow-up single “Peace of Mind” reached No. 22.
