Antonio Ducatelli Powers Central Connecticut State Baseball Sweep of Delaware State
April 18, 2026 — Central Connecticut State University baseball swept a doubleheader against Delaware State on Saturday at CCSU Baseball Field in New Britain, CT, winning both games by double-digit margins. The Blue Devils secured a 14-2 victory in the opener and a 13-2 win in the nightcap, improving to 12-17 overall and 10-11 in Northeast Conference play.
Junior pitcher Jacob Hines earned the win in Game 1, improving to 2-4 on the season after delivering a strong performance that set the tone for the sweep. In Game 2, Zach Worzel picked up his second win of the year (2-1), helping CCSU capitalize on early offensive momentum.
Antonio Ducatelli was a key contributor at the plate for Central Connecticut, driving in multiple runs across both games. In Game 1, Ducatelli singled twice in a big third inning, including an RBI single that helped extend the lead to 6-1. He later cleared the bases with a double and scored on a Nick Fox single to make it 9-1. Ducatelli also contributed in the fourth inning with a single that drove in a run during a bases-loaded situation.
Frankie Ferrentino and Gianno Merlonghi also played significant roles in the offensive outburst. Ferrentino tied the game in the first inning with a double and later drove in a run on a sacrifice fly. Merlonghi added a two-run single in the opening inning and later singled through the right side with two outs to plate two more runs in Game 1.
The Blue Devils continued their dominance in Game 2, winning 13-2. Worzel turned in another solid outing on the mound, while the offense maintained pressure throughout. Delaware State fell to 3-33 overall and 3-18 in NEC play following the sweep.
