Jakarta –
Eating dates when breaking the fast is the sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad and is a habit of Muslims throughout the world. However, approaching Ramadan 2026, choosing dates is no longer just a matter of taste and type.
Solidarity with Palestine has encouraged Muslims to be more selective in choosing the products they buy, especially products originating from Israel. For this reason, here is a review of the characteristics, how to check, and a list of Israeli date brands that Muslims must know.
Main Characteristics of Israeli Dates
Reporting from the Boycott page, Divestment, Sanction (BDS) and the Islamic Human Rights Commission, a movement that seeks an economic and cultural boycott of Israel, financial divestment from the state, and government sanctions. Based on this movement, there are main characteristics of Israeli dates, including the following:

- There is a barcode (bar code) 729 which is the serial number for the country of Israel on the date product packaging.
- There is written information regarding Israeli export companies, such as Medjool Plus, Carmel Agrexco, Mehadri and Hadiklaim.
- Not all dates produced from Medjool are Israeli. These dates need to be checked again for the identity of the producing company on the packaging.
- Avoid dates that do not have clear information about the producer company and country of origin. There are often products that claim to come from Palestine without including the contact details of the manufacturer or importer.
- The price of dates sold by Israel is much cheaper because it receives subsidies from the Israeli government.
How to Check Israeli Date Products
In addition to knowing its characteristics, to avoid Israeli dates, Muslims can pay attention to the following steps when buying them. Among others:
- Check the packaging label when buying dates. If there is no country of origin information, be sure to check via a checking website.
- Check with the company selling the dates. One of Israel’s largest exporters is Hadiklaim.
- Check the packaging box carefully, because Hadiklaim dates are also sold under supermarket brand names, such as King Solomon, Jordan River, Jordan River Bio-Top, and MyJool.
- Some brands of Palestinian dates include Zaytoun, Yaffa, and Holy Land. On Palestinian products, the label “Grown in Palestine” is printed.
