Boyko Borisov Criticizes Bulgarian Caretaker Government, Highlights Revenue Agency Changes

Bulgarian politician Boyko Borisov, leader of the GERB party and former Prime Minister, has been actively touring the country, criticizing the current caretaker government and commenting on recent personnel changes. His remarks, shared via his official Facebook profile, focus on concerns regarding transparency and the handling of key infrastructure projects and revenue collection.

Criticism of the Caretaker Government

Borisov has publicly questioned the speed and rationale behind recent changes made by the caretaker government, specifically regarding regional governors and police chiefs. He expressed skepticism about the swiftness of these replacements, asking how such thorough checks could be completed in a single week. He also questioned the appointment of Emil Dechev to the Ministry of the Interior, suggesting a level of preparedness that implies prior planning. Boyko Borisov specifically criticized what he perceives as attempts to undermine the “Petrohan” project, alleging a lack of transparency and information surrounding it.

National Revenue Agency Leadership Change

Borisov also addressed the recent change in leadership at the National Revenue Agency, noting the decision occurred amidst reported record revenues exceeding 14 billion BGN. He characterized the move as a “form of gratitude” for the agency’s financial performance.

Remarks on President Rumen Radev

During a recent appearance in Plovdiv, Borisov criticized President Rumen Radev, alleging that Radev has surrounded himself with individuals linked to a “red oligarchy.” He has made similar claims in the past regarding this alleged influence.

Borisov’s Political Background

Boyko Borisov has served as Prime Minister of Bulgaria on three separate occasions (2009–2013, 2014–2017, and 2017–2021). He has been a member of the National Assembly since April 12, 2023, representing the 16th MMC – Plovdiv constituency. Prior to founding GERB in 2006, Borisov was the Mayor of Sofia from 2005 to 2009.
